### Final Push: Trump and Harris Criss-Cross the South Ahead of Election Day
With just three days remaining until Election Day, political heavyweights former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are making their final appeals to voters in key battleground states. Both figures are intensifying their campaigns in the southern United States this weekend, aiming to sway undecided voters in their favor.
Donald Trump’s schedule is jam-packed with multiple rallies in North Carolina and Virginia. He started his day with an energetic rally in Gastonia, near Charlotte, North Carolina, and intends to close the evening with another rally in Greensboro, North Carolina. In between, Trump is also addressing voters in Salem, Virginia. Confident of his chances, Trump told supporters in Gastonia, "this will happen on Tuesday."
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris is also vigorously campaigning in the South. She landed in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday for an evening rally, following stops earlier in the day in Atlanta, Georgia. Notably, as Harris disembarked from Air Force Two, Trump's plane was observed stationed about 50 yards away, a fitting symbol of the close race between the two. Urging voters to head to the polls, Harris emphasized her commitment to reducing living costs, including a federal ban on corporate price gouging on groceries.
President Joe Biden has also joined in the efforts, returning to his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania, to push a get-out-the-vote campaign. During his visit, Biden encouraged union members to support Harris, praising her as a champion of labor rights, declaring, "I wouldn't have picked her as vice president if she had that trouble."
In an effort to galvanize support, former President Barack Obama is scheduled to rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Sunday, focusing on undecided voters in this pivotal swing state. Additionally, Harris Campaign Chair Jen O'Malley Dillon has been actively strategizing, ensuring that key figures, like Obama, visit states where early voting is still open to remind residents to cast their ballots.
Polling data paints a picture of fierce competition. Harris and Trump are neck-and-neck in several crucial states, including Pennsylvania and Michigan, each polling at 49% and 47% respectively. A recent CNN poll showed Trump marginally ahead in North Carolina. These razor-thin margins underscore the volatility of the current political climate.
Both campaigns have harnessed star power to boost their turnout efforts. Harris's rally in Atlanta featured notable appearances by director Spike Lee, singer Victoria Monét, and performances from rappers 2 Chainz and Big Tigger, among others. In Charlotte, actress Kerry Washington and artists like Jon Bon Jovi and Khalid lent their support to Harris's campaign.
As Election Day approaches, the weather could also play a role. Forecasts predict mild weather for most parts of the country, although some states, such as Wisconsin and Michigan, could experience rain. Despite potential weather disruptions, voter turnout is expected to remain robust given the high stakes of this election.
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson's recent comments about repealing Obamacare and the CHIPS and Science Act have also stirred the political pot. Harris took the opportunity to criticize these statements, portraying them as indicative of Trump's broader agenda to implement "Project 2025".
With the race heating up, safeguarding against misinformation is more critical than ever. Election officials are on high alert to ensure a fair tally, while voters are urged to be vigilant against baseless claims of fraud.
As the final days of campaigning unfold, both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to secure victory in a closely contested election.
