The 2024 NFL preseason has come to an end, which means it's decision time for the Buffalo Bills. After a 31-26 loss to the Carolina Panthers in their exhibition finale, head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane are now tasked with cutting down the team's roster to 53 players.
One notable cut from the roster projection is quarterback Ben DiNucci, who will be QB3 on the practice squad following Shane Buechele's neck injury. Other players who didn't make the cut include cornerback Anthony Brown.
In the running back department, rookies James Cook and Ray Davis have secured spots on the 53-man roster. Cook is expected to be the change-of-pace back behind the team's primary rusher. Meanwhile, Ty Johnson's past performance and the endorsement of offensive coordinator Joe Brady earned him a spot, while Frank Gore Jr. did not make the cut despite a strong effort against the Panthers.
In the wide receiver position, Marquez Valdes-Scantling's issues with drops during training camp and the preseason put him on thin ice. However, his good rapport with quarterback Josh Allen ultimately earned him a spot on the roster. Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, and Mack Hollins also made the cut, while notable cuts include KJ Hamler and Andy Isabella.
At tight end, Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, and Quintin Morris secured their positions on the 53-man roster. Tre' McKitty and Zach Davidson were not so fortunate.
Moving on to the offensive line, key players like Dion Dawkins, Connor McGovern, and David Edwards solidified their positions. O'Cyrus Torrence, Spencer Brown, Alec Anderson, Ryan Van Demark, Tylan Grable, Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, and Will Clapp will also be part of the 53-man roster. Noteworthy cuts include La'el Collins and Richard Gouraige.
On the defensive side, Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones, DeWayne Carter, and Austin Johnson secured spots as defensive tackles. Eli Ankou, Branson Deen, Gable Steveson, and DeShawn Williams did not make the cut.
In the defensive end position, Greg Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa, Von Miller, Dawuane Smoot, and Javon Solomon are set to contribute on the field, while Kameron Cline, Kingsley Jonathan, Casey Toohill, and Rondell Bothroyd were cut from the roster.
The linebacker group will consist of Terrel Bernard, Dorian Williams, Edefuan Ulofoshio, Nicholas Morrow, Deion Jones, and Baylon Spector. Joe Andreessen and Shayne Simon did not make the final roster.
Looking at the cornerbacks, Rasul Douglas, Christian Benford, Kaiir Elam, Ja'Marcus Ingram, Taron Johnson, and Daequan Hardy will be in the lineup. Kyron Brown, Te'Cory Couch, and Keni-H Lovely were not included.
At the safety position, Taylor Rapp, Cole Bishop, Mike Edwards, Cam Lewis, and Damar Hamlin secured their spots, while Dee Delaney, Kendal Williamson, Kareem Jackson, and Terrell Burgess were cut.
Finally, the Bills' special teams unit will include kicker Tyler Bass, punter Sam Martin, and long snapper Reid Ferguson.
As the Bills finalize their roster ahead of the regular season, fans eagerly await to see how these decisions will shape the team's competitiveness in the upcoming games.
