**Brush Fires in Salem and Beverly Under Control After Burning Multiple Acres**

The thick smoke still lingering around Highland Avenue and Cain Road in Salem, Massachusetts, Sunday morning is a stark reminder of the brush fire that erupted the night before. According to Salem firefighters, the fire ignited near a local day camp and rapidly escalated, burning through 47 acres of woodland.

Although the flames have been subdued, the fire's proximity to residential areas is alarming. Residents reported that the flames came as close as 30 feet to a condo complex on Tanglewood Lane. Betsy Cassidy, a resident of the complex, described the scene: "There was smoke all in that area and you could see the flames; it was really bright orange. It was far enough away and it seemed like the fire department was already on it, but it does make me nervous."

Salem was not the only community dealing with brush fires on Saturday. Earlier that day, another brush fire was reported near Wenham Lake in Beverly, behind an Aubuchon Hardware store. Firefighters managed to gain control over the flames, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The incidents come amid ongoing elevated fire risks in Massachusetts, exacerbated by dry conditions. Additionally, the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for southern New Hampshire on Sunday, signaling the potential for more fires in the region.
