The Boston Bruins kicked off their on-ice training camp at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton, Mass. on Thursday, with one notable absence on the roster. Goalie Jeremy Swayman will not be participating as he has yet to sign a contract, according to Bruins' general manager Don Sweeney.

Swayman, who emerged as a standout player for the Bruins during last season's playoffs, has been in negotiations with the team regarding salary and contract duration. Sweeney expressed disappointment that an agreement had not yet been reached, highlighting the priority placed on securing Swayman's services.

While the specifics of the contract dispute remain undisclosed, Swayman's absence from training camp means that Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi will have the opportunity to take over the goaltending duties for the time being.

Sweeney shared his intention to continue discussions with Lewis Gross, Swayman's agent, in the hopes of reaching a resolution. However, if a contract is not finalized by December 1st, Swayman will be ineligible to play for the Bruins this season.

Despite the setback, Sweeney remains optimistic that an agreement will be reached before the deadline. Acknowledging his disappointment, Sweeney emphasized his determination to find a favorable outcome that satisfies both the team and the promising young goaltender.

Swayman's stellar performance last season puts him in contention for the starting goalie position for the 2024-25 season, especially after the departure of Linus Ullmark. Bruins' fans are eager to see him in action once a contract is settled, anticipating the continuation of his impressive play on the ice.

As negotiations continue behind the scenes, both parties aim to find a common ground that ensures Swayman's future with the Bruins, as well as the team's ongoing success. The countdown is on, with hopes high for a timely resolution that allows Swayman to make his mark as the team's No. 1 goaltender in the near future.
