### Boeing Divests Surveillance Subsidiary to Thales Amid Financial Struggles
In a move to stabilize its financial situation, Boeing has finalized a transaction this month to sell Digital Receiver Technology, a defense subsidiary specializing in surveillance equipment for U.S. military intelligence. The buyer, Thales Defense & Security, is part of the prominent European defense electronics firm Thales SA, as confirmed by a Boeing statement on Sunday.
While Boeing has chosen not to reveal the financial specifics of the deal, it comes at a critical time for the company. The Wall Street Journal had previously reported on Sunday about a potential sale of one of Boeing's smaller defense units, though it did not specify which one.
This divestiture aims to help Boeing navigate a range of financial challenges. Just last week, the aerospace giant indicated the possibility of raising up to $25 billion through stock and debt offerings. This move is intended to counteract financial stress resulting from production delays, safety issues, and an ongoing strike by workers in its U.S. manufacturing hubs.
The strike, primarily affecting Boeing's West Coast operations and centered in Washington state, has disrupted the production lines of key models including the 737 MAX, 767, and 777 jets. Striking workers are scheduled to vote on a new contract proposal this Wednesday, which could potentially bring the month-long strike to an end.
Through strategic actions like the sale of Digital Receiver Technology, Boeing aims to mitigate its financial woes and maintain its investment-grade credit rating in the face of these operational challenges.
