### Bill Maher Criticizes Democrats Post-Election, Urges Party to Reflect
Bill Maher, host of HBO's "Real Time," did not hold back in his critique of the Democratic Party following their defeat in the recent presidential election where Kamala Harris lost to Donald Trump. Calling the party "losers," Maher urged them to "look in the mirror" and reevaluate their strategy and platform.
During his monologue, Maher candidly admitted that he "did not vote for the winner," but unlike his fellow late-night hosts, he accepted the election results graciously. "We had an election. I did not vote for the winner; we'll see what the winners do now," Maher stated. He emphasized that the winners now have the responsibility to confront reality.
Maher specifically targeted Harris and the Democratic Party, suggesting they need a serious introspection after their "embarrassing loss." "My message to the losers: losers look in the mirror," Maher stated, eliciting a stunned silence from the audience. He highlighted the Democrats' disbelief about the election close margins and pointed out that Trump's victory was anything but narrow.
Pointing to the facts, Maher noted that Trump won all seven key swing states, including North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Arizona, even if some results were pending confirmation. He observed that Trump's significant gains among various demographics were a crucial factor. Trump's improvements among Latino and Asian voters, as well as Black men, contributed to nearly nine million more votes than he received in 2016.
Leading up to the election, Maher had already expressed concerns about Harris’s chances, particularly due to waning support among Black males. He remarked this in an October episode, noting that it was a troubling sign for an African American candidate to need to bolster support among Black men.
Despite Trump’s victory, Maher reassured his audience that his show would go on and that he would continue making political jokes. "We're gonna keep doing jokes here," he remarked, maintaining an upbeat and humorous tone. This was in stark contrast to his counterparts like Jimmy Kimmel, who emotionally broke down on his show, calling the election a "terrible night for everyone."
Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert also adopted somber tones in their post-election shows. While Meyers sarcastically claimed he voted for Harris, Colbert checked in with his fans, acknowledging the widespread disappointment among his regular viewers.
Maher’s unapologetic and critical take highlighted a significant need for the Democratic Party to introspect and strategize better for future elections.
