In a daring series of events, a group of 20-25 individuals on bikes executed a string of smash-and-grab robberies at two 7-Eleven stores in Hollywood on Friday night. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the first incident took place at 8:02 p.m. at a 7-Eleven store located on 7040 West Sunset Boulevard.
According to employees who spoke to KTLA's Erin Myers, the group of individuals forcefully broke a window and swiftly pilfered food and beverages from the store before making their escape. The brazen robberies shocked both customers and employees alike, leaving them concerned about their safety.
Shortly after the initial incident, another 7-Eleven store, situated on 5700 Santa Monica Boulevard, fell victim to a similar attack. Although no further details were immediately available, it was confirmed that the front window of the store had been shattered as of Saturday morning.
Authorities suspect that a third 7-Eleven store also experienced a smash-and-grab incident overnight, though specific information regarding this incident is yet to be revealed.
These incidents starkly come just one day following the announcement made by Governor Gavin Newsom, alongside a bipartisan group of state legislators, regarding the signing of 10 bills aimed at preventing retail, auto, and property theft. The timing has drawn attention to the persisting challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing such criminal activities.
Police are actively investigating the robberies, reviewing surveillance footage and seeking leads to apprehend the individuals responsible. Local authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in their ongoing investigation.
The series of smash-and-grab robberies serve as a reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and security of businesses and communities. As officials work to implement the new legislation aimed at combatting retail theft, stakeholders hope that similar incidents will be curbed in the future, creating a safe and secure environment for all residents and business operators in Hollywood.
