Biden Wins Coin Toss for Podium Position in CNN Debate Against Trump
In an exciting turn of events, President Joe Biden's team won the coin toss to determine podium positions for the upcoming CNN debate against Donald Trump. According to CNN, Biden's campaign selected tails, and luck was on their side as the coin landed in their favor.
As a result, Biden will secure the right side of the stage, dominating viewers' screens during the 90-minute matchup. However, by choosing this position, Biden will deliver his closing statement first, giving Trump the coveted opportunity to have the last word.
Taking place on June 27 in Atlanta, this CNN debate will be the first of two scheduled encounters between Biden and Trump. The second debate is set to occur on September 10 and will be hosted by ABC News.
The CNN debate will be simulcast on ABC and ABC News Live, with pre-coverage beginning at 8 p.m. ET on the network and 7 p.m. ET on ABCNL. The rules for the debate were announced earlier this week, highlighting measures such as candidates' microphones being muted unless it is their turn to speak. Additionally, no props will be allowed, with candidates only permitted to have a pen, paper, and a bottle of water.
Moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, both Biden and Trump will have two minutes to answer questions posed to them, followed by one minute each for response and rebuttal. A red light will indicate when candidates have five seconds remaining of their allotted time, turning solid red when their time is up.
With just a week remaining until the debate, both campaigns are ramping up their preparations. President Biden will convene with former chief of staff Ron Klain and other trusted advisers and aides at Camp David. On the other hand, Trump is engaging in policy meetings with advisers and congressional allies, focusing on critical issues like immigration, the economy, and democracy. He is also scheduled to campaign in Philadelphia over the weekend and attend fundraisers next week.
Biden and Trump will be the sole candidates on the stage as the qualification window closed at midnight, according to CNN.
In what promises to be a highly anticipated clash of these two prevailing political figures, all eyes will be on the CNN debate as Biden and Trump lock horns on critical issues impacting the nation.
