Former President Joe Biden firmly addressed new accusations brought forward by President Donald Trump regarding his presidential tenure and cognitive health. President Trump had recently announced an investigation into Biden’s use of autopen for signing official documents, suggesting that Biden's staff may have obscured a "cognitive decline."
In a statement shared with multiple media outlets, including Axios, Biden was clear in his rebuttal. "Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations," Biden emphasized. He categorically dismissed any claims that he was not in control during his time in office, calling them "ridiculous and false."
This sudden scrutiny comes in the wake of Trump directing the counsel to the president, alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi and other officials, to investigate whether there was a conspiracy to mislead the public about Biden's mental state. The order also questions whether certain individuals unconstitutionally exercised the responsibilities of the President on Biden’s behalf.
Questions about Biden’s health have grown louder after he was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer. Additionally, the release of "Original Sin," a book by Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper, has intensified public discussion about Biden’s ability to handle presidential duties during his term.
The investigation ordered by Trump is also seen against the backdrop of House Republicans’ growing efforts to subpoena Biden’s aides. These moves aim to further examine the former President’s cognitive fitness and his use of autopen in signing documents.
