In a strong condemnation of a recent two-hour interview conducted by Tucker Carlson, the Biden administration has labeled the sit-down with a Holocaust denier as "disgusting and sadistic" and an affront to all Americans. Carlson, former Fox News anchor, hosted podcaster Darryl Cooper on his show earlier this week, during which Cooper spread Nazi propaganda and made controversial claims about the Holocaust.

Cooper's remarks during the interview suggested that the mass murder of Jews by Nazi Germany was an accidental outcome of poor planning. He went as far as stating that the millions of Jews who perished in concentration camps simply "ended up dead." These views, which question the well-documented historical atrocities committed by the Nazis, have been met with outrage and condemnation from various quarters.

White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates issued a statement to CNN, expressing the administration's revulsion at Carlson's decision to provide a platform for a Holocaust denier. Bates denounced it as an insult not only to the memory of the over 6 million Jews who were genocidally murdered by Adolf Hitler but also to the millions of Americans who fought against Nazism. Furthermore, Bates emphasized the offense caused to every victim of antisemitism and the prevailing global dangers of this deeply-rooted prejudice.

In response to Cooper's claim that Winston Churchill was the "chief villain" of World War II, Bates categorically refuted this assertion. He unequivocally declared Hitler as "one of the most evil figures in human history" and the true "chief villain" of the war. Bates stressed the Biden-Harris administration's stance against any endorsement or propagation of such historical distortions, which he deemed morally unacceptable, particularly in the wake of the recent deadly attack targeting the Jewish community.

Tucker Carlson, defending his interview with Cooper, praised him as "maybe the best and most honest popular historian in the United States." Dismissing criticism from the White House, Carlson accused them of using the myth of Churchill to escalate tensions and risk nuclear conflict. He labeled the administration as warmongers lacking the moral high ground.

While some notable figures, such as entrepreneur Elon Musk, initially expressed interest in the interview, it was swiftly met with widespread criticism from both conservatives and liberals alike. Notable conservative analyst Erick Erickson voiced his disapproval on social media, remarking that he did not expect Carlson to become a platform for "Nazi apologetics." Erickson further lambasted Carlson's credibility, stating that he was neither the best nor the most honest, instead branding him a contrarian moral cretin who promotes Nazi sympathies.

The controversy surrounding Carlson's interview highlights the sensitivity and seriousness with which historical events like the Holocaust are approached, emphasizing the need for vigilance in combating antisemitism. As the discourse unfolds, it remains to be seen how Carlson and other media personalities will respond to the widespread condemnation and calls for accountability.
