In a candid interview with NBC's Lester Holt, President Joe Biden addressed his recent debate performance against Donald Trump and faced mounting concerns among panicked Democrats about his re-election prospects.

Biden acknowledged that his debate against Trump had been a "mistake" and admitted regret for using the word "bullseye" during a campaign call with supporters. The comment, made just prior to the attempted assassination of former President Trump, raised eyebrows and drew criticism. However, Biden stressed that the focus should remain on Trump's policies and the numerous lies he told during the debate.

The President firmly rejected the idea of engaging in another debate with his Republican opponent before the Democratic National Convention in August. Instead, he urged Democrats to concentrate on Trump's actions and the impact of his policies.

While Biden addressed his missteps, concerns among influential Democrats continue to grow. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is reportedly "convinced" that Biden may lose the election and has been actively "working the phones" to strategize his removal from the Democratic ticket. Joining her in expressing concerns is Representative Adam Schiff, who has cautioned party donors about the potential for a substantial defeat in the upcoming election.

As the campaign reset continues, Biden will likely face heightened scrutiny and pressure to regain the support of his party. With the Democratic National Convention on the horizon, the President is expected to deliver a compelling argument to convince Democrats that he remains the best candidate to take on Trump in 2024.

It remains to be seen how Biden's interview with Holt and his efforts to address his missteps will shape the perception of his candidacy. With increasing doubts among some in his own party, the President faces the challenge of uniting a divided Democratic base and inspiring confidence in his ability to lead the nation for another term.
