Clifton Williams, 50, allegedly walked up to Buscemi, 66, in Kips Bay on May 8 and punched him before calmly walking away. However, the suspect has now been apprehended by the police.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) identified Williams from surveillance footage near the site of the attack and had been tirelessly searching for him. They even checked a Brooklyn homeless shelter, believed to be his last known address. It was, however, a call from the superintendent of a homeless services building in Hell's Kitchen that ultimately led to Williams' apprehension.

When a police officer responded to the call, he asked Williams to fill out a report for his lost property. Astonishingly, as Williams completed the paperwork, the officer recognized his name and associated it with the wanted poster of the person responsible for Buscemi's assault. The officer then confronted Williams, asking if he was the person in the wanted poster, to which Williams allegedly confessed.

Steve Buscemi, known for his various roles in film and television, including his portrayal of a firefighter in the hit show "Rescue Me," sustained visible injuries from the attack. On May 11, he was seen sporting a black eye and a swollen cheek while shooting a commercial in Soho. Despite the incident, Buscemi's publicist reassured everyone that he was okay and appreciated the well wishes.

Witnesses who saw security footage of the assault described the incident as unprovoked, with the suspect approaching Buscemi and striking him on the side of his head before the actor fell to the ground. Buscemi quickly regained his composure and looked towards the attacker, who shouted something before continuing on his way.

This unfortunate incident marks the second instance of random street violence targeting members of the popular show "Boardwalk Empire." Actor Michael Stuhbarg, who portrayed gangster Arnold Rothstein, was also a victim of a assault in March. Stuhbarg was struck in the back of the neck with a rock while out for a run on the Upper East Side, and the NYPD arrested a deranged vagrant, Xavier Israel, 27, in connection with the attack.

The arrest of Clifton Williams brings a sense of relief to both Buscemi and the community. Authorities are working to ensure a thorough investigation into the motives behind the attack and to hold the suspect accountable for his actions. Random acts of violence continue to be a concerning issue in New York City, and efforts to maintain safety and security on its streets remain paramount.
