### Suspect in Portland Ballot Box Fires May Strike Again, Police Warn
Portland law enforcement officials have raised alarms about the security of upcoming elections following a series of concerning incidents involving ballot boxes. Earlier this week, a suspect was responsible for setting fire to hundreds of ballots in Vancouver. The same morning, a "device" was placed at another ballot box in Portland. Authorities are increasingly worried that the individual may attempt further attacks before Election Day.
"Invesigator believe it is very possible the suspect intends to continue these targeted attacks across the area," Mike Benner, spokesperson for the Portland Police Bureau, informed reporters during a news conference on Wednesday. This alarming pattern has led to an escalated response from both local and federal authorities.
Additional security measures are being implemented around ballot boxes in Clark County and Multnomah County to prevent any future incidents. The FBI has also joined the investigation, signifying the serious nature of the threat.
A similar attack in Clark County earlier this month has been connected to the same suspect. Fortunately, that incident did not result in any damage to the ballots.
Police have released a detailed description of the suspect in hopes that public assistance will lead to his capture. The suspect is described as a white male, between 30 and 40 years old, with either very short or balding hair. He has a thin to medium build and a thin face. Notably, he is considered to be highly knowledgeable in metal work and welding. The vehicle he is believed to be driving is a dark-colored 2001-2004 Volvo S60, featuring a unique matte finish, aftermarket grill, dark wheels, unpainted body trim, and no front license plate.
The Portland Police Bureau has called on anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted to Detective Meredith Hopper or through the PF&R Fire Investigation Unit's tip line, referencing case number 24-276181. Crime Stoppers of Oregon is also offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest, promising anonymity for tipsters.
As the community braces for the possibility of more attacks, authorities are focused on maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring public safety.
