In a disturbing incident on Friday evening, a group of Jewish students at the University of Pittsburgh campus fell victim to an attack by an individual wielding a bottle. University officials swiftly responded to the incident, offering support and assistance to the affected students.

According to the university's statement, two students received on-site medical treatment following the attack near the iconic Cathedral of Learning, a central building on the main campus. After the incident, the university reached out to organizations such as the Hillel University Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh to provide additional support to the students during this unsettling time.

While authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public arising from this incident, the university made it clear in their statement that acts of violence and anti-Semitism will not be tolerated within the Pitt community. The safety and well-being of all students are of utmost importance.

The University of Pittsburgh Police Department stated that they do not believe this incident is related to a prior violent incident that occurred at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, which is located across the street from the Cathedral of Learning. In that separate incident, a man was shot in the leg near the complex at around 5:30 p.m. He was transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The timing of the attack is particularly troubling as the university's fall semester had just commenced on Monday. As a result, the investigation into this incident is ongoing, with the university confirming that local and federal partners are providing their support in the efforts.

Although further details about the attack and the apprehension of the suspect have not been provided, this incident serves as a reminder of the need to address and confront acts of violence and discrimination on college campuses. The university administration, along with the local authorities, is working together to ensure the safety and security of the entire campus community.

During these challenging times, it is crucial for everyone to stand united against hate, promoting inclusivity, and fostering an environment where all students feel safe and supported.
