In a significant development regarding the violent incident at the pro-Palestinian encampment on the UCLA campus, UCLA police have made their first arrest in relation to the attack. Edan On, an 18-year-old pro-Israel counterprotester, was apprehended in Beverly Hills and subsequently booked into the Los Angeles County Jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police and jail records, On, who is not a UCLA student but a local high school senior, was identified by CNN as one of the attackers involved in the assault. In video footage, On can be seen wearing a white hoodie and wielding a pole, using it to repeatedly strike a pro-Palestinian protester even after they had fallen to the ground.

Interestingly, On's mother initially acknowledged his involvement in the attack, proudly posting on Facebook, "Edan went to bully the Palestinian students in the tents at UCLA and played the song that they played to the Nukhba terrorists in prison!" However, she later denied that he was present at the protest altogether.

The violent incident at UCLA has attracted widespread attention and raised questions about the university's campus security and law enforcement's response. Observers have questioned how counterprotesters were allowed to set off fireworks and physically assault students for an extended period before any intervention took place.

The severity of the attack prompted an independent review of the university's handling of the situation, as well as scrutiny of law enforcement's actions. Just last week, during a congressional hearing, UCLA chancellor Gene Block faced criticism from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for "allowing" the violence to occur under his watch.

For weeks, pro-Palestinian supporters had voiced their dissatisfaction with law enforcement's lack of arrests of the counterprotesters. With On's arrest, it is possible that more individuals involved in the attack will face legal consequences.

This arrest signifies an important step towards accountability for the violent incident on the UCLA campus. Authorities will continue their investigation to ensure that all individuals responsible for the assault are identified and held responsible for their actions.
