In a harrowing incident at Kennesaw State University, gunfire erupted on campus, causing panic among students and prompting the university to issue a "KSU Alert" warning. The incident took place just feet away from where students, like Robert Bowns, were studying, leaving them shaken and terrified.

Bowns described hearing a series of rapid gunshots, saying, "All I heard was bop, bop, bop, seven or eight times." Shortly after, a campus report confirmed the presence of an armed intruder, sending shockwaves through the university community. The alert was issued promptly at 4:07 p.m., urging everyone on campus to lock their doors and windows and remain vigilant.

The timing of the incident was particularly concerning, as classes were still in session during that period. Bowns expressed his worry, stating, "This was really early and still during the time that classes could have been going on."

Thankfully, KSU Emergency Management declared the situation safe at 4:43 p.m., allowing students and staff to come out of hiding. However, police continued to seal off Campus Loop Road behind the Austin Resident Complex for several more hours as investigators, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, gathered evidence.

KSU President Kathy S. Schwaig expressed condolences, saying, "Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victim's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time." The university is committed to providing support and resources to those affected by the shooting, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity.

Shockingly, this is not the first time that Kennesaw State University has issued a "KSU Alert" due to an armed intruder incident. In January of this year, students and staff were instructed to shelter in place for hours as reports of a person with a gun on campus circulated. The incident stemmed from a carjacking in DeKalb County, where three suspects fled onto the university campus. One of the suspects was found to be armed when their stolen vehicle was spotted in Cobb County.

The latest incident at Kennesaw State University serves as a stark reminder of the prevalent threat of campus violence and the importance of timely and effective communication. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting to ensure the safety and well-being of the university community.

As the campus recovers from this frightening ordeal, faculty, and students are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to campus authorities.
