In a recent interview with Variety, actress-comedian Amy Schumer discussed her unwavering support for Israel despite the backlash she has faced. Schumer shared her experiences of being heckled on set during the filming of her upcoming film, "Kinda Pregnant," and expressed her concerns about the vitriol she receives for advocating for Israel.

During a scene, a heckler interrupted the take, hurling derogatory remarks at Schumer and accusing her of supporting genocide, saying, "Fuck you, Amy Schumer!" The interruption highlighted the heightened tensions surrounding discussions about Israel. However, Schumer remained composed, stating that she did not let it affect her emotionally.

Schumer acknowledged the controversy surrounding discussions about Israel and the challenges it presents. She stated that speaking up for Jewish people often leads to misunderstandings and is seen as a disregard for the situation in Gaza. However, she expressed her unequivocal stance on the matter, emphasizing that what is happening in Gaza is deeply troubling, horrifying, and unimaginable.

While Schumer does not support the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, she emphasized that it is not acceptable to hate anyone based on their religious or ethnic background. She spoke out against the notion that supporting Jewish causes automatically signifies support for everything happening in Israel.

Despite the negative comments and backlash she receives, Schumer shared that she also receives numerous expressions of gratitude for her stance on Israel, even stating that people thank her for her support "10 times a day."

In the interview, Schumer also addressed the additional challenges women face when expressing their opinions. She believes that women are often met with a specific kind of vitriol, attributing it to a deep-rooted fear of women. She claimed that people save a certain level of anger and animosity for women who are outspoken, something that is not new to her.

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, a close friend of Schumer, came to her defense, acknowledging the immense fire Schumer faces for using her voice to advocate for justice. Lawrence described Schumer's approach as defiant, likening her response to negative comments to the nonchalant attitude one might have towards a fiery explosion.

Overall, Amy Schumer remains steadfast in her support for Israel and continues to use her platform to amplify her voice despite the backlash and abuse she receives. In doing so, she raises important conversations about the complexities surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the need for understanding and respectful dialogue.
