Comedian and actor Amy Schumer recently found herself in the midst of controversy regarding her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict. However, Schumer has now clarified her stance on the ongoing war after facing backlash from critics.

Schumer, 42, has been using her large Instagram platform to advocate for Israel's operation and call for the release of hostages held in Gaza since Hamas's surprise attack on Israel on October 7th. She is also among more than 700 Hollywood figures, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Gal Gadot, and Jerry Seinfeld, who have signed an open letter from the Creative Community For Peace in support of Israel.

In a recent interview with Variety, Schumer made it clear that while she supports the Jewish people, she does not agree with Israel's controversial Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She expressed, "I don't agree with anything that Netanyahu is doing, and neither do the Israelis I know. Of course, what's going on in Gaza is sickening, horrifying, and unthinkable. And, I don't think it's okay to hate anyone because they were born Jewish."

Schumer further added, "It's gotten to this place where you can't speak up for other Jews without people feeling like it's a slight to the conditions in Gaza."

Last November, Schumer posted a clip from civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr's speech, advocating against antisemitism. However, Dr Bernice King, King Jr's daughter, responded to the video, stating that Schumer failed to acknowledge her father's history of challenging racism and advocating for peace.

Days later, Schumer decided to accept feedback by turning on her Instagram comments, which had previously been disabled. However, she continued to face criticism for sharing content that some deemed as propaganda and perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

In one instance, Schumer shared a comic on Instagram that satirized comments made by American Pro-Palestine supporters. The comic included signs with insensitive statements such as "Gazans rape Jewish girls only in self-defense." Social media users called out Schumer for perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

Responding to the backlash, Schumer messaged actor Asia Jackson, who had criticized her post, asking if something she posted about her people being massacred upset her. Jackson, an African-American and Indigenous Filipino, replied saying that it was the Islamophobia and generalization of Gazan people that bothered her.

In her latest post about the war, shared on March 10th, Schumer shared a statement from British historian Simon Sebag Montefiore, urging for the exposure of all crimes and the urgent need for aid to be provided to the people of Gaza. The statement also emphasized the importance of negotiation, ceasefire, and the creation of a safe Israel and Palestine.

As the controversy surrounding Amy Schumer's stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict continues, she remains vocal about her support for the Jewish people while condemning the actions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
