In an exciting weekend for moviegoers, two highly anticipated films, "Abigail" and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," are set to hit theaters. With a spring break underway for 8% of K-12 students and 1% of college students, the box office is expected to see a mixed bag of results until the release of "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" in May.

Leading the pack is A24's "Civil War," which has already earned $27 million at the box office as of Monday, with $1.9 million on Tuesday alone. However, it will face tough competition from Universal's "Abigail," a genre film directed by Radio Silence, making around $12 million. This means that "Civil War" would experience a decline of -53%, which is still considered a strong performance for the Alex Garland dystopian divided America thriller.

"Abigail," starring Melissa Barrera, the late Angus Cloud, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, and Kevin Durand, tells the story of a group of kidnappers who abduct a powerful underworld figure's 12-year-old daughter, demanding a $50 million ransom. As they find themselves trapped with the seemingly normal little girl in an isolated mansion, their numbers start to dwindle, leading to mounting horror.

Both "Abigail" and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" will share the cinema screens, with the latter directed by Guy Ritchie and projected to open with around $6 million, comparable to the film "The Covenant." "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," based on recently declassified files from the British War Department and inspired by true events, introduces the first-ever special forces organization formed during World War II. Led by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and author Ian Fleming, the unit employs unconventional and "ungentlemanly" fighting techniques against the Nazis, ultimately changing the course of the war.

Starring Henry Cavill, Eiza Gonzalez, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes, "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" received an A- CinemaScore during its sneak previews and is set to premiere on Thursday at 6 PM before its wider release in 2,700 theaters.

Excitement is building for both films, with "Abigail" holding an 82% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" following closely behind at 81%. Many exhibitors are optimistic about the potential success of both movies, with expectations that they could surpass initial estimates.

As spring break continues to heat up the box office, movie lovers have a variety of films to choose from. Will "Civil War" successfully defend its number one position, or will "Abigail" or "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" take the spotlight? Only time will tell as audiences eagerly await the outcome at the weekend box office.
