### Abby Lee Miller Sues Los Angeles Hospital for Alleged Medical Malpractice
Abby Lee Miller, the well-known star of the reality TV show "Dance Moms," has filed a lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and two of its doctors. The 59-year-old claims that a foreign object was mistakenly left inside her body after spinal surgery in 2020.
Miller's suit, filed on Tuesday, charges the hospital and the physicians with medical malpractice, professional negligence, and medical battery. The lawsuit alleges that a catheter was left inside her abdomen, resulting in ongoing pain and discomfort. Despite her numerous complaints to medical professionals, no diagnostic imaging was ordered to identify the source of her suffering, according to the lawsuit.
Nadine Lewis, Miller's attorney, emphasized the long period of pain Miller endured, stating that the issue was ignored by multiple physicians. "Abby Lee Miller suffered for years from an object left inside of her during spinal surgery; despite complaints to various physicians, not one ordered imaging of any kind to diagnose the source of her pain," Lewis said.
By early 2024, Miller’s abdominal discomfort had worsened, impacting her daily life significantly. Her pain led her to seek care for an unrelated issue at a different hospital, where she was eventually referred to an emergency room. It was not until a CT scan in June 2024, that the presence of the foreign object was discovered and subsequently removed.
"This is not just medical battery; it reflects a larger, devastating truth: women's pain is too often ignored or dismissed by the very professionals sworn to care for them," Lewis added. "Abby's case is a chilling reminder: even when women are vocal and visibly in distress, their pain is still not believed."
Cedars-Sinai issued a statement noting that they could not comment on ongoing legal matters or specific patient treatments due to privacy laws. However, they asserted that "the care and safety of our patients, staff, and visitors are always Cedars-Sinai's top priorities. We are dedicated to ensuring that we meet the highest standards of care for all those we serve."
Attempts to obtain comments from the doctors named in the lawsuit were unsuccessful. A receptionist for Dr. Hooman Melamed hung up when asked for a comment, while Dr. Paul Dwan declined to provide one.
Miller previously garnered national attention in 2017 when she was sentenced to a year in federal prison for concealing assets in a bankruptcy case and failing to report an international currency transaction. Now, she is seeking nearly $1.5 million in damages for the alleged medical negligence that has compounded her health issues.
