### Election Day 2024: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in Tight Presidential Race

As Election Day 2024 unfolds, the presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris remains fiercely competitive across the United States. With Michigan still classified as a tossup, several key swing states are poised to play a crucial role in determining the next president. Early polls and betting odds reveal a narrow lead for Harris, but the dynamics are continuously shifting.

According to ABC News' latest projection at 6 a.m. on November 5, 2024, Harris holds a slim advantage with 48.0% against Trump’s 46.8%. Furthermore, composite national polls from 270towin show Harris ahead by 1.2%. RealClearPolling's betting odds also lean in favor of Harris, giving her a slight edge at +0.1. Interestingly, these odds have been rather volatile in the days leading up to the election, with Trump briefly taking a +0.3 advantage on Friday before settling into a dead heat by Monday afternoon.

Renowned historian Allan Lichtman, a history professor at American University in Washington, D.C., who has a notable track record of accurately predicting 9 out of the last 10 U.S. presidential elections, has forecasted a victory for Kamala Harris this year. “This year, I think I have a flock of crows in my stomach," Lichtman commented, reflecting on the high stakes and unpredictability of this election.

Voters should not anticipate final results on Election Night itself as ballot counting has never been completed on the same day throughout U.S. history. Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson projected that state results might be finalized by Wednesday. However, historical precedents from the 2000 and 2020 elections suggest that close contests or the handling of mail-in ballots could further prolong the announcement of the final result.

In Michigan, voters have until 8 p.m. local time to cast their ballots on November 5, 2024. Those in line by the closing time will still be permitted to vote. A valid photo ID is required for in-person voting. For details on polling locations, Michigan residents can visit the Secretary of State's website or the Lansing State Journal for live updates on election results.

As the nation remains in suspense, the evolving dynamics and late-breaking developments could tip the scales either way, making this one of the most closely watched elections in recent history.
