In a shocking incident in the western city of Perth, Australia, police shot and killed a 16-year-old boy who had stabbed a man in what authorities believe to be a terrorist attack. The assailant, armed with a kitchen knife, showed signs of being radicalized online, according to Premier Roger Cook of the Western Australia province.

On Saturday night, a man in his 30s was stabbed in the back at a parking lot in Perth's Willetton area. Moments before the attack, concerned members of the local Muslim community had alerted authorities, expressing their worries about the boy's behavior.

Premier Cook stated in a televised news conference that there is no evidence to suggest that anyone else was involved in the attack, emphasizing that the perpetrator acted alone. The victim, currently in stable condition, is receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, briefed on the incident by police and intelligence agencies, assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. He condemned violent extremism, stating that Australia is a peace-loving nation that does not tolerate such actions.

Authorities revealed that the teenager had made a call to the police on the night of the incident, stating his intention to commit acts of violence. A member of the public later alerted authorities about an ongoing knife attack in the car park.

Three police officers swiftly responded to the scene, with one carrying a firearm and two equipped with tasers. However, the tasers failed to subdue the assailant, leading to the fatal shot that was fired.

Syed Wadood Janud, the imam of Perth's Nasir Mosque, condemned the stabbing in a statement, emphasizing that there is no place for violence in Islam. He commended the local Muslim community for flagging the individual's suspicious behavior to the police.

This incident comes in the wake of a series of knife attacks across Australia recently. In a separate case, New South Wales police charged several boys with terrorism-related offenses after the stabbing of an Assyrian Christian bishop during a livestreamed sermon in Sydney. Prior to that, a stabbing spree in the Bondi suburb of Sydney claimed the lives of six people.

Despite these recent incidents, Australia continues to be considered one of the safest countries in the world, with gun and knife crimes remaining rare, according to the federal government. Authorities remain committed to maintaining the safety of communities and combating extremist ideologies to prevent such acts of violence in the future.
