In a late-night display of Major League Soccer at the Red Bull Arena, New York RB managed to take away a hard-fought victory against D.C. United with a final score of 1-0 on August 20th, 2023.

The first half of the game saw a standoff with neither of the teams managing to score, much to the frustration of the fans considering it was the 100th MLS match between these two teams, the oldest rivalry in the league. Yellow cards were shown to Dru Yearwood of New York RB in the 43rd minute and Chris Durkin of D.C. United in the 36th minute. However, the real drama was yet to unfold.

The second half continued following a similar tempo until a substitution was made in the 85th minute with Wikelman Carmona replacing Elias Manoel. The apparent 'boring' game then gathered pace when John Tolkin of New York RB scored a decisive goal from a free kick in the 88th minute, stirring up the quiet Red Bull Arena. After that, D.C. United couldn't manage to bounce back, ending the game with a narrow victory for New York RB.

Kyle Duncan of New York RB bagged another yellow card for the team in the 82nd minute, and D.C. United's Derrick Williams received one in the 54th minute. Overall, the game seemed to disappoint fans as most stated on social media that they felt "neglected" and disinterested in the outcome.

Regardless of the fan's disappointment, New York RB would be appreciating the much-needed win. Both teams now await their next opponents- Inter Miami for New York RB and Philadelphia Union for D.C United on August 26, 2023.
