In what was a crunch match at the Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, Dallas snagged a victory against Austin in their Major League Soccer showdown held on 27th August 2023.
The match was staged in front of an attendance of 18,267 passionate soccer enthusiasts, and ended with a full-time score of 1-0, in favor of Dallas. The lone and decisive goal came in the last moments of the game, in the 90+7th minute, from local youth product Nkosi Tafari, assisted by Marco Farfan.
While Austin fought a good fight, the social media voices believe they were unlucky. The loss might have repercussions for their coach, J. Wolff, whose seat seems to be getting hotter with the disappointing result.
Dallas, on the other hand, were not spared from criticism either. Despite being the victors, they were perceived as being poor and devoid of ideas going forward. Fans lamented the team's struggle to break down low blocks which appears to have been a reoccurring issue for them. The frustration was primarily targeted at Jesus Jimenez, whom supporters feel doesn't fill the gap left by Franco Jara.
The exquisite goal from Farfan was considered a touch of tactical brilliance from Dallas Coach Nico Estévez. FCD's dominance on the right wing was widely acknowledged, but Ema Twumasi, who came on as a substitute, was seen as a functional player offering little addition to the team.
Despite the win, FC Dallas showed some discipline issues, with Paul Arriola, Marco Farfan, Jesús Jiménez, and Asier Illarramendi all receiving yellow cards. Austin FC wasn't immune to the referee's whistle either, with Daniel Pereira getting sent off after accumulating two yellow cards.
All in all, this was a hard-fought, close ending match showing both teams' resilience and competitiveness.
Dallas face off St. Louis City in their next game on 31st August 2023 whilst Austin is playing at home against Seattle Sounders on the same day.
