KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A tragic wrong-way crash on Interstate 435 resulted in the death of two individuals on Tuesday morning. Kansas City police identified the victims as Alphonso Duke Carroll, a 60-year-old innocent driver, and 29-year-old Ollie Coldiron, the suspected robber being pursued by authorities.

The incident began when law enforcement officers initiated a chase after Coldiron, who was suspected to be involved in multiple armed robberies in the Northland area. The pursuit led to Coldiron driving the wrong way on I-435 near 210 Highway.

Recognizing the danger posed by the suspect going against traffic, the Kansas City Police Department promptly decided to terminate the chase. Unfortunately, moments later, Coldiron's vehicle collided with another car, claiming Carroll's life.

According to the family of Carroll, he was on his way to work when the fatal crash occurred. The sudden loss of a loved one has left them devastated.

Investigation into the chain of events revealed that Coldiron had allegedly carried out a series of gas station robberies overnight leading up to the chase and crash. Four incidents took place in less than two hours on Tuesday morning. The first occurred near a Phillips 66 on Highway 152 near I-35, followed by another robbery at the Shell on 64th Street near I-29 less than an hour later.

"He shot his gun straight at the whiskey cabinet to basically scare my team member," said Benjamin Walker, the general manager of one of the gas stations that Coldiron targeted.

The crime spree continued with Coldiron's alleged involvement in a robbery at the Pilot truck stop in Birmingham, located approximately 20 minutes away from the crash site. In yet another incident, he threatened an employee at a Phillips 66 gas station by firing shots.

The Clay County Sheriff's Department has confirmed these details, highlighting the dangerous nature of Coldiron's actions throughout the night.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement authorities are working toward understanding the full extent of Coldiron's alleged crimes and the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision on I-435.
