The Middle East and countries around the world are grieving the loss of Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, who passed away at the age of 86 on Saturday. Known for his low profile, Sheikh Nawaf's three-year tenure as emir was dedicated to addressing internal political disputes within the oil-rich nation.

As Kuwait prepares to bid farewell to their beloved leader, Sunday has been designated as the day for his final resting place. To show respect for the emir's passing, public offices in Kuwait will be closed for three days. Additionally, a state mourning period of 40 days has been announced.

Several countries have expressed their condolences for Kuwait's loss. The Kingdom of Bahrain, through its Royal Court, extended sincere condolences to the Al Sabah royal family and the people of Kuwait. Bahrain will lower its flags for three days in honor of the emir.

Jordan's King Abdullah bin Al Hussein conveyed his heartfelt condolences on X, emphasizing Sheikh Nawaf's dedication to his country, his people, and the Arab nation as a whole. The foreign ministry of Oman characterized the late leader as being in "God's hands" and offered their condolences.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar expressed sadness and announced a three-day period of mourning, during which the flags in Qatar will fly at half-staff. Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also sent their condolences and declared a three-day mourning period, sharing in the sorrows of their Kuwaiti brothers and sisters.

Emirati President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed praised Sheikh Nawaf's wisdom and his role in strengthening Kuwait-UAE relations. Yemen's Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak offered sympathies to the Kuwaiti people, wishing them patience and solace.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his sadness, describing the relationship between the emir and the United Kingdom as a friendship that will be fondly remembered. Kosovo's president, Vjosa Osmani, expressed her condolences, acknowledging the emir's leadership and lifelong dedication to his nation.

Dennis Francis, president of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, extended heartfelt condolences to the emir's family, the government of Kuwait, and its people.

The passing of Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah marks the end of an era in Kuwait. As the nation mourns, his legacy as a leader dedicated to his country and diplomatic relations will be cherished and remembered by many.
