A woman has been rescued after spending a terrifying night trapped inside a gondola at the Heavenly Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe, California. The incident unfolded on Thursday when Monica Laso found herself stuck in the sky, screaming desperately for help until she lost her voice.
According to Laso, who had originally planned a ski trip with her friends, exhaustion got the better of her, and she decided to take a break and rest in the gondola. However, shortly after boarding at around 5:00 p.m., the gondola suddenly stopped, leaving her stranded high above the resort.
Laso's friends became worried when they couldn't reach her and reported her missing. Unfortunately, it wasn't until Friday morning when the gondola started operating again that resort crews discovered Laso had spent the entire night stuck in the gondola.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office was called for assistance, and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Upon her rescue, Laso was assessed by medical personnel and declined further transportation, although it is always recommended for patients to seek medical attention.
Tom Fortune, the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Heavenly Mountain Resort, expressed concern and stated that the safety and well-being of their guests is their top priority. The resort is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
CNN has reached out to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office for more details about the incident.
