In a tragic incident on the CTA Red Line train, a woman who was viciously assaulted and robbed earlier this month has unfortunately succumbed to her injuries over the weekend. Vivian Morgan, 61, was discovered unresponsive and lying across the seats of a train car near the Roosevelt station in Chicago.

The alarming discovery was made by CTA employees around 1:30 a.m. on January 4th. Morgan was immediately rushed to Stroger Hospital in critical condition; however, she was pronounced dead at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday. An inconclusive autopsy was conducted on Sunday, with further studies pending to determine the exact cause of her death, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The suspect in this brutal attack, identified as Mijawon Johnson, 36, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, and a misdemeanor count of violating an order of protection, as confirmed by the police. Johnson, who was already on parole, was ordered to be detained by a judge in Cook County.

According to court documents, Johnson was one of two suspects who attempted to steal Morgan's bag during the incident. Allegedly, Johnson forcefully held her head against a train seat while repeatedly punching her in the abdomen and head. He then callously "stomped" on her body, causing severe injuries that left her brain-dead, the documents state.

Police reported that Morgan endured cuts and bruises to her face, as well as broken ribs and other trauma to her body. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.

This horrifying incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of riders on public transportation in Chicago. Authorities are actively investigating the case and urging any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The loss of Vivian Morgan has left friends, family, and the community devastated, as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
