Snow and Freezing Rain Expected in Metro Detroit on Monday: Here's What to Expect

Metro Detroit residents can expect a wintry mix of precipitation including snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain to start next week, according to the latest forecast. The 4Warn Weather predicts partly cloudy skies on Sunday with a high of 25 degrees and westward winds between 5-10 mph.

As Sunday night approaches, clouds will increase, and skies will become mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to 14 degrees and southwest winds ranging from 5-15 mph.

Monday will bring cloudy skies with snow showers developing in the afternoon. There may be a light accumulation of snow before it changes to a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and/or freezing rain in the evening. High temperatures of 32 degrees will only be reached late in the evening, accompanied by southwest winds of 5-15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Monday night is expected to remain cloudy, with a wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain, and rain likely. There is a possibility of light ice accumulation, especially south of I-69. Low temperatures will be around 30 degrees, with southwest winds of 5-15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph.

On Tuesday, cloudy skies will persist, with a wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain, and rain in the morning, transitioning to rain in the afternoon. High temperatures are forecasted to reach 36 degrees, accompanied by southeast winds between 5-10 mph.

The wintry system arriving on Monday is expected to bring snow showers in the afternoon, transitioning to a wintry mix and freezing rain for areas south of I-69. Areas to the north of I-69 have a higher chance of experiencing continued snowfall. Temperatures will gradually warm throughout the day and into the evening, reaching the freezing mark by late Monday night.

The wintry mix of freezing rain and rain is expected to continue overnight on Monday and into Tuesday. A light ice accumulation is possible, following a light snow accumulation from the snow showers on Monday. This freezing rain could impact Tuesday morning's commute to school and work. Overnight temperatures will be in the low 30s, rising to the mid-30s by Tuesday afternoon. The region may require a Winter Weather Advisory for the combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain from Monday afternoon/evening and into the first part of Tuesday.

Once temperatures rise above freezing, any leftover freezing rain will transition to rain on Tuesday. The chance of rain showers will persist into Tuesday night and Wednesday. High temperatures on Wednesday are expected to reach the upper 30s.

The warming trend will continue towards the end of the week, accompanied by a chance of rain showers on Thursday and Friday. High temperatures on both days will hover around the lower 40s. Cloudy skies are expected to linger over the weekend, with mostly cloudy conditions and high temperatures remaining above average, reaching the lower 40s.

Metro Detroit residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts as they prepare for the wintry mix and potential icy conditions on Monday and Tuesday. Travelers should exercise caution during the morning commute, and motorists are encouraged to allow for extra time and maintain safe driving practices in potentially hazardous conditions.
