Oklahoma is bracing itself for another round of winter weather that is expected to hit on Sunday, potentially causing hazardous icy road conditions through Monday morning. KOCO 5 Meteorologist Taylor Cox has provided detailed information on the timeline and areas that will be affected by the winter storm.

According to Cox, the precipitation is forecasted to commence as early as 4 p.m. on Sunday in Southwestern Oklahoma, gradually moving into Central Oklahoma by 5-6 p.m. From there, the winter weather system is anticipated to progress eastward, passing Interstate 35 and lasting through the late-night hours into Monday morning.

The majority of the precipitation is expected to be a mix of rain and freezing rain, posing a significant risk as it freezes upon impact due to the road temperatures in the 20s. Residents in Southwestern Oklahoma should prepare for slick roads late Sunday, while icy bridges could potentially develop in Western Oklahoma, stretching all the way to the OKC metro and Eastern Oklahoma. However, Northwestern Oklahoma is likely to experience dry road conditions.

As Monday morning arrives, widespread slick road conditions are predicted across different regions, including Southwestern Oklahoma, the OKC metro area, Southern Oklahoma, and Eastern and Northeastern Oklahoma. Additionally, there will be a band of icy bridges stretching from Southwestern Oklahoma to Clinton, Enid, and Ponca City.

Meteorologist Taylor Cox has emphasized the high risk for slick roads and icy bridges during the Monday morning commute. There is a medium threat for ice accumulation and a low threat for power outages as a result of the winter storm.

To stay informed and receive customized weather alerts, residents are encouraged to download the KOCO 5 App. The app provides access to live radar, interactive maps, and exclusive team coverage of the winter weather conditions.

As Oklahoma prepares for the approaching winter storm, it is crucial for residents to monitor the situation and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety while driving on potentially dangerous roadways.
