In response to the anticipated snowfall and icy conditions in southern Michigan, dozens of counties, including Southeast Michigan, will be placed under a winter weather advisory. The advisory is set to take effect on Tuesday and is expected to last through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, Southeast Michigan is likely to receive between 2 to 6 inches of snow on Saturday. The advisory warns of mixed precipitation, with total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations ranging from one tenth to two tenths of an inch.

Starting this afternoon and evening, light freezing rain or freezing drizzle is anticipated, leading to hazardous conditions on untreated roads as temperatures remain in the 20s. As the night progresses, the intensity of the precipitation will increase, potentially resulting in a mix of snow and sleet. However, the greatest mix is expected along and north of the M-59 corridor.

On Tuesday morning, primarily freezing rain is expected until temperatures rise above freezing in the early to mid-afternoon. This forecasted thaw will bring relief from the icy conditions.

The advisory also extends to the Mid-Michigan and Thumb Region, although specific details regarding snow and ice accumulations were not provided.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to exercise caution while traveling and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Motorists are urged to drive slowly, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and be mindful of black ice on the roadways.

Individuals are encouraged to stay updated on the latest weather conditions and follow the guidance of local authorities.
