KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Kansas City area, as residents prepare for the first measurable snowfall of the season. The advisory is set to be in effect from 12 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the forecast, rain is expected to change to sleet and then snow throughout the day, with accumulation ranging between 1-4 inches for areas north of I-70. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated to occur between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m., with some areas potentially experiencing heavier bands and receiving even more than the predicted 4 inches.

Residents in the far southern counties, however, may be disappointed as they will primarily experience rain rather than snow. As the system moves out on Sunday, freezing temperatures are expected, causing the wet surfaces to refreeze and potentially leading to hazardous road conditions.

Sunday will see a cold and cloudy start, but as the day progresses, the sun is expected to make an appearance. Temperatures for the upcoming week are anticipated to stay below average, ensuring that the recent snowfall remains on the ground for an extended period.

Looking ahead, meteorologists predict another storm system towards the end of next week, which could potentially bring more wintry weather to the area. Residents are urged to stay updated with the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this winter weather event.

As always, drivers are reminded to exercise caution on the roadways and allow extra time for their commute, as icy and slippery conditions may persist well after the snowfall has ended.
