Winter Weather Advisory for Northeast as Strong Low-Pressure System Approaches

The busiest travel period of the year is expected to be accompanied by inclement weather in the northeast as a strong low-pressure system moves towards Central New York. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect across the Tug Hill Plateau and Adirondacks, warning of minor freezing rain and snow accumulation, as well as gusty winds.
According to meteorologists, the leading edge of precipitation may initially bring a brief mix of snowflakes to the area before quickly transitioning into rain by late afternoon. However, the main concern will be the strong afternoon wind gusts, ranging from 30-40mph, which will result in significantly colder wind chill temperatures in the low 30s and even 20s.
Fortunately, freezing rain accumulation is expected to be limited for most areas affected. However, residents in far northeastern Oswego County and Lewis County should exercise caution as there is a higher risk of icy roads before the precipitation changes over to rain later in the evening.
While some snow accumulation is anticipated in eastern New York, any snowflakes that fall along the I-81 corridor are likely to melt rapidly as the rain moves in.
The forecast for Wednesday indicates that a few light scattered rain showers could persist, but residents can expect some sunshine breaking through just in time for Thanksgiving.
As the holiday season gets underway, travelers and residents in the northeast are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and exercise caution while on the roads.
