In response to the approaching winter storm, a winter weather advisory has been expanded to include metro Atlanta, in addition to the already affected north Georgia mountain counties. The advisory warns residents of potential impacts from a scattered light wintry mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan reported that the wintry mix is expected to be most likely on Monday evening through early Tuesday morning. Particularly in the advisory counties, there could be up to 0.1" of ice accumulation, primarily on untreated and elevated surfaces.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Fannin County, where there is a higher chance of accumulating snow, possibly up to about 1 inch.

Residents in metro Atlanta can expect only limited impact. Although there may be some light wintry mix showers in the early morning hours, the severity will be minimal.

The winter weather advisory has been extended to include Bartow, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Dawson, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Lumpkin, Polk, Pickens, Towns, Union, and White Counties.

Moreover, the advisory has also been expanded to encompass Carroll, Cobb, Douglas, Forsyth, Fulton, and Paulding Counties. This expansion will take effect at 4 a.m. on Tuesday and last until noon.

On Wednesday morning, Atlanta is expected to experience extremely low temperatures in the low teens, with wind chills near zero. This will be the coldest weather the city has encountered since December 2022.

Additionally, another blast of bitterly cold air is forecasted to move in for the coming weekend, further intensifying the wintry conditions.

As temperatures continue to drop on Tuesday morning, residents are urged to take caution and prepare for the coldest weather felt in about a year.

With the expanded winter weather advisory and the looming winter storm, it is important for the public to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of inclement weather.
