According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Central Pennsylvania is bracing for a winter storm that is expected to bring significant snowfall to the region. The NWS has issued a winter storm watch, which will begin Monday evening and last through Tuesday afternoon, citing the potential for travel disruptions due to the inclement weather.
As per NWS forecasts on Sunday afternoon, Harrisburg is anticipated to receive around an inch of snow. However, areas further north, specifically around State College and extending towards the New York border, are projected to experience several times that amount of precipitation. The latest NWS maps indicate that snowfall totals in Harrisburg will likely be less than an inch.
The weather event is anticipated to commence with rain on Monday night, transitioning into snowfall in the early hours of Tuesday morning. South-central Pennsylvania is expected to experience a longer period of rain, while areas further north will see snow arrive earlier. Windy conditions are also expected on Tuesday, with gusts reaching up to 26 mph in the Harrisburg area.
As the storm progresses, it is predicted that snowfall totals will increase significantly in specific regions. State College is anticipated to receive a range of 4 to 6 inches, Williamsport may experience 6 to 8 inches of snow, while areas around Wellsboro and toward the New York border could see up to 12 inches of snow accumulation.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and to take necessary precautions for winter weather conditions. Travel may be impacted, and motorists are urged to exercise caution on the roads.
The NWS will continue to monitor the storm's progression and provide further updates as needed. Stay informed and prepared for the winter weather conditions expected in Central Pennsylvania.
