A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for several counties in Wisconsin, including Racine, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Walworth, Fond du Lac, Dodge, Jefferson, and Sheboygan. The warning is in effect from 6 a.m. Friday through noon Saturday.

Earlier today, a clipper system brought a beautiful coating of snow to the region, accompanied by light winds that allowed the snow to stick to everything. There will be a brief period of calm weather throughout the day and tonight before a strong "panhandle hook" storm approaches the Midwest and Great Lakes region.

The majority of the area will see snow, but there is a possibility of rain mixing in closer to the lake on Friday morning. This is due to the higher water temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s. However, as the intensity of the snowfall increases throughout Friday afternoon and night, everyone is expected to experience primarily snow.

The peak of the storm is forecasted to occur on Friday late morning into Friday night, with the highest snowfall rates during this period. Additionally, strong winds gusting near 40 to 45 mph on Friday and Friday night, continuing into Saturday, will result in reduced visibility and blowing snow as temperatures drop.

Snowfall totals are projected to range from 7-10 inches across most of the area, with lakeside areas expected to receive lower totals of 4-7 inches. The lower totals near the lake are attributed to the wetter snow and the possibility of rain mixing in. However, this is the area where snowfall confidence is the lowest.

Following the snowfall, arctic air will sweep into the region, bringing below zero temperatures and wind chills near 20 below zero on Sunday and into early next week. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe.

Overall, residents of the affected counties in Wisconsin should prepare for this significant winter storm, with heavy snowfall, gusty winds, and potential travel disruptions. Stay updated on the latest weather advisories and road conditions for a safe weekend ahead.
