A major winter storm is wreaking havoc across several states in the US, with heavy snowfall, icy roads, and record cold temperatures. As a result, over 2,400 flights have been canceled on Monday, with airports in Denver, Dallas, Houston, and Chicago being the hardest hit.

Parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee are already buried under up to 6 inches of snow. Major cities in the storm's path for Monday include Little Rock, Arkansas; Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee. The hazardous conditions have also led to an 18-wheeler overturning near Houston, causing traffic disruption.

Schools in Little Rock and Nashville have decided to remain closed on Tuesday due to the severe weather. The snow is expected to continue falling throughout the South on Monday, while an icy mix is predicted to move into southern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia at night. This calls for drivers to exercise caution on potentially slick roads until Tuesday morning.

In addition to the snowstorm, the Heartland is experiencing record-low temperatures, with wind chill alerts issued from Montana to Texas. Several cities, including Sioux City, Iowa; Kansas City, Missouri; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Austin and Dallas, Texas, may record all-time lows on Monday.

The freezing cold is expected to persist over the next few days, affecting states from Nebraska to Texas to Mississippi. On Tuesday, temperatures are forecasted to range from the teens to single digits in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. In Chicago, the wind chill is expected to drop to minus 23 degrees on Tuesday.

The chilly conditions are not limited to the South and the Heartland. On Monday night, snow and ice are predicted to hit areas from Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston, with potential snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Western New York is also experiencing heavy lake-effect snow, with up to 27 inches falling south of Buffalo over the weekend.

The extreme weather conditions have even impacted sporting events. The Buffalo Bills' game against the Pittsburgh Steelers scheduled for Sunday had to be postponed to Monday due to the intense snowfall. Volunteers were called upon to help shovel snow from the stadium, as many seats are still covered. Despite the heaviest snow ending in Buffalo, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the city from Tuesday night into Thursday, with the possibility of 2 to 3 feet of additional snowfall.

As the winter storm continues to make its way across the US, officials are urging residents to stay safe, remain indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel.
