Winter Storm Warnings in Effect for Majority of State, Expect 6 to 14 Inches of Snow

A winter storm is currently wreaking havoc across the state, with snowfall and freezing temperatures creating treacherous travel conditions. The storm, which began in the early morning hours, is expected to continue throughout the day, with snowfall rates reaching over an inch per hour in certain areas.

As of now, there are winter storm warnings in effect for a large portion of the state. The heavy snowfall, combined with gusty winds of up to 25 miles per hour, is reducing visibility and making travel extremely difficult. The snow is light and fluffy, further hampering transportation.

Weather forecasters are urging residents to stay off the roads if possible, as the winter storm is expected to peak during the morning and afternoon. While the snowfall is anticipated to lessen later in the evening, clean-up efforts will commence in the coming hours.

According to meteorologists, the storm is a result of a low-pressure system passing to the south of the state, bringing frigid air and heavy snowfall. The snow is forecasted to gradually lighten throughout the afternoon, with a few flurries expected during the evening. Partial clearing is anticipated overnight, with some sunshine forecasted for tomorrow.

Current estimates suggest that areas in central and southern sections of the state could receive between 6 to 12 inches of snow. However, due to the fluffy nature of the snow, certain locations may see upwards of 13 to 14 inches. Northern regions are expected to experience lesser amounts of snow.

The travel impacts are expected to be most severe during the morning and afternoon, with conditions improving later in the day. Tomorrow is expected to be sunny and breezy, providing some relief from the wintry weather. However, residents are advised to remain cautious, particularly on untreated roads.

Looking ahead, another weather system is expected to approach southwest New Hampshire tomorrow evening. While southern areas may see initial snow, the main focus will be on rain and potential wind on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Northern regions will continue to experience snow for a bit longer before conditions taper off.

Stay tuned for further updates on this winter storm and subsequent weather systems. Remember to stay safe and informed, and check wmur.com for the latest information.
