In response to recent rocket attacks on Israeli homes, the United States has reportedly pledged to provide Israel with two additional Iron Dome batteries. The announcement comes following assurances from US President Joe Biden to expand defense aid to Israel during his visit to the country.

According to a report by Axios on Thursday evening, the US will be supplying Israel with two batteries that were previously purchased from Israel. The request for the Iron Dome batteries was made earlier in the week during visits by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

President Biden emphasized the US commitment to Israel's security during his visit, stating, "We are going to keep Iron Dome fully supplied so it can continue standing sentinel over Israeli skies, saving Israeli lives."

The need for additional Iron Dome batteries has become apparent as terror groups, primarily based in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, continue to launch rockets into Israel. Since the deadly massacre carried out by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of around 1,400 Israelis and the capture of 200 more, thousands of rockets have been fired at Israel.

With the ongoing war with Gaza, there are concerns that the Iron Dome's interception rate, estimated at 90 percent, could decrease. A report from Bloomberg on Thursday noted that the system is being stretched to its limits.

Recent rocket attacks have further highlighted the urgent need for enhanced defense measures. On Thursday, three civilians were injured when rockets were fired into northern Israel from Lebanon. Earlier in the day, two rockets struck the border city of Sderot, causing infrastructure damage but no injuries.

The provision of two additional Iron Dome batteries by the US will significantly bolster Israel's defense capabilities against these indiscriminate rocket attacks. The Iron Dome, a highly effective missile defense system, intercepts and destroys incoming projectiles, safeguarding Israeli lives and infrastructure.

As the conflict intensifies, it is expected that the US-Israel partnership will continue to strengthen in the realm of defense cooperation. The additional support from the US reflects a commitment to ensuring Israel's security amid ongoing threats.
