In a recent session, the United Nations General Assembly passed eight resolutions that specifically target and condemn Israel, raising concerns about the disproportionate focus on the country while neglecting other global issues. The resolutions revolve around Israel's alleged "repressive measures" towards Syrian citizens in the Golan Heights and reaffirm the mandates of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and the U.N.'s "special committee to investigate Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the Occupied Territories."

These resolutions have ignited a wave of criticism from various quarters, accusing the UN of biased and unfair treatment towards Israel. Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a non-governmental watchdog organization based in Geneva, expressed his disbelief at the timing of the resolutions. He pointed out that they come just one month after the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust and on the 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht, which he described as surreal.

Neuer emphasized that the primary objective of these resolutions appears to be demonizing Israel rather than advancing peace or human rights. He highlighted the striking absence of any resolutions addressing human rights situations in other countries such as China, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Turkey, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Algeria. Neuer questioned the European Union's commitment to international law and human rights, as it has failed to introduce a single UNGA resolution on these issues.

Furthermore, Neuer highlighted the lack of mention in the resolutions of a recent UN Watch report revealing the celebration by UNRWA teachers of the October 7th massacre against Israeli civilians and a call made by an official to execute Gazans seeking refuge in the south. He condemned all EU states for continuing to support UNRWA without demanding significant reforms, thereby becoming complicit in this alleged conspiracy of silence.

One of the resolutions, co-drafted by Syria, falsely condemns Israel for "repressive measures" against Syrian citizens in the Golan Heights. Neuer criticized this condemnation as absurd and morally galling, given the Syrian regime's involvement in the deaths of over half a million of its citizens. He questioned the U.N.'s call to hand over more people to such a regime and highlighted the organization's obliviousness to the plight of more than 3,000 Palestinians killed, injured, and expelled by Assad's forces.

The overwhelming focus on Israel at the General Assembly, according to Neuer, exposes the lack of genuine concern for Palestinians and human rights. He argues that these one-sided condemnations serve to scapegoat Israel and undermine the U.N.'s credibility as an impartial international body. Neuer stressed that politicization and selectivity go against the founding mission of the U.N. Charter, which promises equal treatment to all nations, regardless of their size.
