According to UNICEF, thousands of babies have been born "into hell," with mothers being subjected to caesarean sections without anesthetics.

Since the conflict began on October 7 of last year, nearly 20,000 births have taken place in Gaza, according to UNICEF. However, these new mothers and their infants find themselves grappling with desperate aid shortages and the repercussions of the widespread Israeli bombardment.

Tragically, some mothers have lost their lives due to excessive bleeding, while others have been unable to deliver their stillborn babies as medical workers in Gaza are overwhelmed. UNICEF's statement paints a grim picture of the situation, highlighting the lack of access to proper medical care and the unimaginable suffering endured by mothers and newborns.

The overwhelmed Emirati Hospital in southern Gaza has been forced to discharge mothers within just three hours of a caesarean section, a situation described by UNICEF representative Ingram as "beyond belief and requiring immediate action." The lack of post-operative care for these mothers, who are sent home within hours of a major surgery, raises serious concerns about their well-being and recovery.

CNN's ability to independently verify the claims made by UNICEF has been hindered due to difficulties in accessing hospitals and other impacted areas of Gaza. However, the UN agency's report sheds light on the severe challenges faced by the local population, particularly women and their newborns, who are caught in the midst of this devastating conflict.

The pictures and personal stories shared on social media by Palestinians living in Gaza provide a glimpse into the daily realities of war and its human costs. As the international community becomes more aware of the challenges faced by the people in Gaza, there is growing concern about the urgent need for immediate intervention and assistance to alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing violence.

The situation in Gaza remains critical, and it is imperative that efforts are made to ensure the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable, including mothers and newborns. UNICEF's call for immediate action serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
