As Southern California prepares for yet another storm this weekend, forecasters are still uncertain about the exact amount of rainfall it will bring. The key factor at play is the atmospheric river, according to KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo. The question remains whether the storm will tap into this atmospheric river, potentially bringing consistent moderate to heavy rain.

The National Weather Service has issued forecasts calling for between 2 and 5 inches of rain in the coastal and valley areas of Los Angeles County. Meanwhile, the mountains and foothills could experience a deluge of 5 to 8 inches of rain. While confidence is high that the rain event will occur, there is only moderate confidence in the amount of rainfall expected, and even less confidence in the timing.

According to Henry, rain is likely to develop on Saturday night, continuing into Sunday. However, there is still a chance of rain persisting into Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and even Thursday of next week. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and prepare for possible extended periods of wet weather.

This impending storm comes on the heels of a previous atmospheric river-fueled system that wreaked havoc across the Southland. The region saw flooded roadways and mudslides, with some areas of Los Angeles County receiving up to 15 inches of rain during that storm.

As the new storm approaches, authorities will closely monitor the situation and provide regular updates to ensure the safety of the community. Southern Californians are urged to stay informed, take necessary precautions, and be prepared for potential impacts such as localized flooding and hazardous driving conditions.

Overall, while the exact impact of the coming storm remains uncertain, residents are advised to remain cautious and prepared for potentially heavy rainfall over the weekend and beyond.
