In a recent statement, Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, expressed Ukraine's strong stance against settlement negotiations with Russia, citing the Kremlin's alleged lack of sincerity and intention to weaken support for the country. Danilov firmly stated that the only condition Russia would offer in talks is for Ukraine to surrender, a demand that Ukraine cannot afford to entertain.
According to Danilov, Russian President Vladimir Putin, or his entourage, make these statements claiming readiness for negotiations as part of a strategy to undermine Ukraine's position on the international stage. Danilov emphasized that such assertions are mere "fake stories" designed to manipulate public opinion.
Ukraine has consistently maintained a clear position on the matter, as outlined by President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula, which consists of 10 points. These points represent Ukraine's commitment to finding a peaceful resolution, but not at the cost of surrendering to a country that Ukraine believes has been consistently destabilizing its sovereignty since February 24.
Danilov further asserted that the negotiations proposed by Russia are nothing more than a veiled call for Ukraine's capitulation, an outcome that the country cannot afford. Ukraine remains resolute in its determination to continue fighting until victory is achieved.
Addressing concerns about the progress on the battlefield, Danilov pointed out that significant results are being attained daily. He highlighted that Ukrainian forces have been successful in neutralizing a large number of Russian soldiers and weapons on their own soil.
In a separate comment, Danilov addressed reports suggesting a 30% drop in the supply of 155-mm artillery rounds to Ukraine by Western countries. He stated that the situation may vary but assured that next year's supply of munitions will not be worse than the current year's.
Danilov acknowledged that the upcoming year will be challenging, particularly at the frontlines. He expressed hope that it would also be a year of victory, both for Ukraine and its international partners, against the common enemy.
President Zelensky echoed similar sentiments during a press conference on December 19, stating that negotiations with Russia were currently off the table.
As tensions persist between Ukraine and Russia, it remains to be seen how the diplomatic landscape unfolds and whether genuine steps towards a peaceful resolution can eventually be achieved.
