The body of Tou Ger Xiong, a 50-year-old U.S. activist and comedian, was discovered with over a dozen stab wounds in a ravine in La Corcovada, Colombia. Xiong, a resident of Woodbury, Minnesota, had been on vacation in Colombia when he was allegedly abducted by a group of men after meeting up with a woman he had connected with on social media.

According to reports, Xiong called a friend at around 7 p.m. on Sunday, stating that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of $2,000 (8 million Colombian Pesos) for his release. He also mentioned that he was being held at gunpoint. Tragically, before any payment could be made, Xiong's lifeless body was found in the water of a ravine with multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Xiong's death, including whether the group decided to kill him because he may have attempted to escape captivity. One alleged kidnapper has been apprehended by the Colombian police, providing some hope for justice in this brutal case.

Described by his family and friends as the life and soul of the party, Xiong was passionate about making positive changes in society. A political science graduate from Carleton College, he dedicated his life to bridging cultures and advocating for those without a voice. Xiong, who was of Hmong descent, embraced his heritage and worked tirelessly to educate others about the Hmong culture. He co-founded organizations such as Community Action Against Racism and the Hmong American Partnership.

In the wake of Xiong's tragic death, his family is in the process of creating a foundation in his name. Through this foundation, they hope to provide scholarships and assistance to those in need, carrying on the legacy of a man dedicated to uplifting his community.

Tou Ger Xiong's passing has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew him. His impact as an entertainer, motivational speaker, and educator will be deeply missed. The community mourns the loss of a man who was recognized for his dedication by being named a Bush Foundation fellow in 2019, as he amplified the voices of his community and served as a force for change.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar expressed her condolences, calling the tragedy "heartbreaking." Her office is in contact with Xiong's family as they work towards bringing his body back to Minnesota.

The investigation into Xiong's murder continues as authorities strive to bring those responsible to justice.
