Former President Donald Trump has once again targeted the New York judge overseeing his civil fraud trial, denouncing him as a "nut job" after he ruled that Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, must testify in the case. The Hill reported Trump's latest attack on the judge, whom he referred to as "Trump hating" and "unhinged" in a Truth Social post on Saturday.
Trump expressed his belief that the judge is "crazy" and driven by intense animosity towards him. He further stated that the case should have never commenced and requested its dismissal.
Judge Arthur Engoron's recent ruling mandated Ivanka Trump's testimony, despite her previous removal as a defendant in the lawsuit. Trump's two sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, are also expected to take the witness stand in the next month.
In response, Ivanka Trump's legal team argued that the prosecutors lacked jurisdiction to subpoena her. They highlighted that she is neither a party to the case nor a resident of New York, insisting that these factors place her beyond the jurisdiction of the court.
The extensive fraud case alleges that Trump and his sons intentionally manipulated the valuation of their business assets to secure more favorable loan and insurance terms. Engoron had previously ruled that fraudulent activities indeed took place, and the ongoing trial aims to determine the extent of damages incurred. Prosecutors are seeking a minimum of $250 million in financial penalties and a prohibition on the three men from conducting business in New York.
The clash between Trump and the judge continues to escalate, with Trump launching scathing attacks on social media and expressing his frustration over the court's decisions. As the trial unfolds, it remains to be seen how the testimony of Ivanka Trump, Donald Jr., and Eric Trump will contribute to the ultimate outcome of the case.
