Bellevue, Washington - In a disturbing act of vandalism, the home of House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Rep. Adam Smith was targeted by pro-Palestine rioters demanding a ceasefire amid the Israel-Hamas war. The incident occurred on Friday when vandals spray-painted Smith's house with bright red paint, leaving behind messages such as "free Gaza" and "ceasefire!", along with red handprints and the statement "baby killer" on the garage door.

Smith, who spoke exclusively with DailyMail.com at the annual Reagan National Defense Forum in Simi Valley, California, expressed his view that this attack reflects a broader trend towards extremism on both the extreme left and the extreme right. He criticized the vandals, stating, "They are so self-righteous in their opinions, they are morally superior to everybody, that they believe in intimidation and the threat of violence and in some cases violence...is a legitimate way to advance their interests."

The incident at Smith's home is seen as part of a larger issue of undermining representative government and hindering constructive dialogue. The congressman emphasized that these groups on both ends of the political spectrum believe so strongly in their own righteousness that they are willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve their goals, which ultimately threatens peace, stability, and basic democracy.

He highlighted the importance of inclusion and dialogue, stating, "I'm not shutting them out. They just don't like my answer. So they think this is an acceptable way to try and intimidate me to change that."

Despite the act of vandalism, Smith remains resolute in his stance, affirming that it will neither intimidate him nor sway his decision-making on important issues. He has consistently called for "humanitarian pauses" in fighting while also expressing support for Israel's efforts to eliminate the terrorist group Hamas.

The attack on Smith's home comes just a week after pro-Palestine rioters were arrested outside the Democratic National Committee, further highlighting the intensity of the ongoing conflict.

Smith also addressed the concerning rise in antisemitism nationwide, particularly on college campuses. Rashida Tlaib's antisemitic speech, Smith admitted he hadn't paid close attention to the specific remarks, but noted the importance of distinguishing between legitimate policy positions and anti-Semitic remarks.
