TILLAMOOK, Ore. - Tillamook County continues to be battered by heavy rains and flooding, prompting the Sheriff's Office to issue a plea to residents and travelers to stay at home. With a flood warning in effect until at least 2:23 p.m., the county faces not only floodwaters but also the risk of landslides and high winds.

The Sheriff's Office emphasized the dangers of venturing out on the roads in their recent press release. "We strongly advise against driving on the roads if possible," stated the agency. "The combination of road hazards, hydroplaning, and hidden road washouts makes it extremely unsafe. Even a few inches of water can cause cars to float, leading to potentially life-threatening situations."

As a result of the severe conditions, both U.S. 101 and 26 have been closed in Tillamook County. Additionally, several smaller roads, including parts of Miami-Foley Road, North Main, Alderbrook Road, and the underpass on HWY 6, were closed as of 7:30 a.m. Intermitting closures are expected throughout the area.

Emergency services are already active, with the Tillamook Fire District conducting a water rescue operation on Long Prairie Road earlier today. While the water level may be receding in certain areas due to tides, the consistent rainfall poses an ongoing threat.

The TCSO has urged residents to prioritize their safety and the safety of first responders. "By staying home and off the roadways, we can prevent unnecessary incidents and keep our responders available for critical situations," emphasized the agency.

As Tillamook County continues to endure challenging weather conditions, it is crucial for individuals to heed the warnings and remain vigilant. Monitor the local news and weather updates for the latest information regarding road closures and any potential developments.

Please stay safe and stay updated as this situation unfolds.
