In a report by the New York Post, it has been stated that tanks are lining up at the Gaza border as Israel appears to be readying its ground invasion of the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials have warned of an imminent ground invasion, with a large border town being evacuated and fleets of tanks being deployed. This comes in response to a surprise attack by Hamas on October 7th, which resulted in the death of at least 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and the capture of over 200 hostages.

Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, addressed the troops earlier this week, assuring them that they would soon see Gaza "from the inside". Economy Minister Nir Barkat also announced that the Israel Defense Forces had been given a "green light" to bring the offensive into Gaza.

Reports suggest heavy airstrikes hitting Gaza, with Israel claiming to have targeted over 100 Hamas-linked sites, including tunnels and arms depots. Israel has not only evacuated its own communities near Gaza but also near Lebanon, relocating residents to hotels within the country. Evacuation plans have now been announced for Kiryat Shmona, a town near the Lebanese border.

The IDF's objective is to decimate Hamas, even if it takes a year, with hostages and civilian casualties taking a secondary priority. Israel aims to destroy Hamas from its roots, both militarily and economically. Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi has instructed troops to locate and destroy Hamas hideouts, targeting key Hamas officials such as Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif.

However, analysts warn that Hamas is likely to employ terrorist tactics as Israeli forces enter Palestinian-controlled land. These tactics include using snipers, setting off improvised explosive devices (IEDs), attacking armored vehicles with grenades, and disguising members as civilians. Gen. Sir Richard Barrons cautions that the chances of completely eradicating Hamas are slim, and the conflict between Israel and Gaza may deepen further.

As tensions escalate and preparations for the ground invasion continue, it remains to be seen how the situation in Gaza will evolve. The international community watches with growing concern as the conflict between Israel and Hamas unfolds, with the hope that a peaceful resolution can be reached.
