A tragic incident unfolded in the 15th district of Paris, as a German tourist was fatally stabbed near the iconic Eiffel Tower. The assailant, identified as Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, an apparent radical Islamist, remains in police custody while a psychiatric follow-up is expected.

According to sources close to the investigation, Rajabpour-Miyandoab had previously been sentenced to five years in prison for criminal conspiracy related to terrorism. He was released in 2020 after serving four years. Three individuals believed to be associated with the attacker are also in police custody, as reported by the national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was of German and Filipino nationality and worked as a nurse. Tragically, the incident also left two others injured - a 60-year-old Frenchman and a 66-year-old British man, who were attacked with a hammer.

The German Interior Minister strongly condemned the attack, labeling it an "abominable crime." Meanwhile, Rajabpour-Miyandoab, a 26-year-old Franco-Iranian, was arrested shortly after the assault and is currently detained by police in the anti-terrorist section.

A video surfaced on social media showing the police holding the black-clad suspect at gunpoint as he brandished a hammer. The assailant falsely claimed to possess an explosive belt, according to the mayor of the 15th arrondissement, Philippe Goujon.

During his arrest, Rajabpour-Miyandoab stated that he was motivated by the suffering of Muslims in Afghanistan and Palestine. This claim was reinforced by a video he had posted on social networks, where he took responsibility for the attack, according to police and security sources.

This incident has once again heightened the terror alert in France, which has been on high alert since the killing of a teacher in October 2020 by a former student with suspected Islamic radicalization. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne pledged to stand firm against terrorism, offering her condolences to the victims and their families.

The shocking attack serves as a reminder of the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris that claimed the lives of 130 people and continues to impact the country's collective consciousness.
