Article:

Residents in central Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania should brace themselves for another round of inclement weather as a strong arctic front moves across the region today. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the third consecutive day, warning of gusts reaching speeds between 30 and 50 mph from the West.

Accompanying this cold blast, there is a possibility of a brief line of snow showers as the arctic front arrives later this morning. While snowfall may be a travel concern for the mountainous regions of Western Maryland, central Maryland and Southern PA may also experience a light dusting of snow, with accumulations ranging from a coating to 1/2 inch.

The radar simulation from 8 AM to 2 PM shows the potential trajectory of the snow showers, although it is important to note that the simulation may not capture all snow showers. Meteorologists believe that there may be more snow showers than depicted, although they are likely to be brief in nature.

In addition to the snow showers, the region will also be impacted by strong winds. The wind forecast predicts average wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph throughout the day, with peak gusts possibly reaching up to 50 mph. As a result, it will feel at least 10 degrees colder due to the wind chill factor.

It should be noted that the core of the cold air mass associated with this arctic front is still located west of the region, with temperatures well below zero across the Central and Northern Plains. While the bulk of the energy from this system is expected to pass just north of Baltimore, it may weaken as it crosses the mountains, leading to a possible break-up of the snow line.

Looking ahead, the next storm system is expected to arrive on Monday night into Tuesday, potentially bringing another round of light snow accumulation. There are also indications of a possible winter weather event towards the end of the work week.

Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling and to stay updated on the latest weather conditions and forecasts. Dressing warmly and taking necessary precautions against the bitter cold and strong winds will be essential to staying safe during this weather event.
